จากกรณีสังหารหมู่ครั้งล่าสุดในสหรัฐ เจ้าหน้าที่สืบสวนสามารถระบุชื่อมือปืนทั้งสองคนได้แล้ว แต่ที่ยังกำลังเสาะหาเบาะแสอยู่ คือสาเหตุจูงใจที่ทำให้คนทั้งสองใช้อาวุธสังหารผู้คนที่ศูนย์บริการผู้ทุพพลภาพในเมือง San Bernardino ใกล้นคร Los Angeles

ผู้บังคับการตำรวจ Jarrod Burguan ของเมือง San Bernardino ระบุชื่อมือปืนสองคนที่บุกยิงผู้คนที่งานเลี้ยงในโอกาสเทศกาลวันหยุดของศูนย์บริการผู้ทุพพลภาพ Inland Regional Center ว่า คือ Syed Rizwan Farook อายุ 28 ปี และภรรยา Tashfeen Malik อายุ 27 ปี

เจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจของ San Bernardino กล่าวว่า สามีเป็นพนักงานทางด้านสิ่งแวดล้อมของกรมสาธารณสุขในเขตปกครองที่นั่นมาห้าปีแล้ว และว่า Syed Farook ไปร่วมงานดังกล่าว แต่จากคำบอกเล่า เขาออกมาจากงานในลักษณะขุ่นเคือง

Syed Farook กลับไปที่งานพร้อมด้วยภรรยาและอาวุธ บุคคลทั้งสองใช้อาวุธปืนยิงสังหารผู้ที่อยู่ในงาน ทำให้มีคนเสียชีวิต 14 คน บาดเจ็บอีก 21 คน และหลบหนีออกจากที่เกิดเหตุโดยรถยนต์แบบ SUV ที่เช่ามา

ตำรวจตามรอยไปถึงบริเวณที่พักในเมือง Redlands ซึ่งอยู่ใกล้ๆ และเกิดการยิงต่อสู้ ซึ่งผลปรากฎว่าสามีภรรยาคู่นี้เสียชีวิตทั้งสองคน

เจ้าหน้าที่สืบสวนของ FBI ซึ่งเข้ารับหน้าที่เป็นผู้นำการสืบสวนเรื่องนี้ เปิดเผยว่า Syed Farook ซึ่งเป็นคนอเมริกัน เดินทางไปต่างประเทศ และกลับเข้ามาพร้อมด้วยภรรยาในเดือนกรกฎาคมปีที่แล้ว โดยภรรยาถือหนังสือเดินทางของปากีสถาน

ทั้งคู่มีบุตรสาว 1 คนวัย 6 เดือน ซึ่งได้ฝากให้แม่ของ Farook ดูแลไว้ในช่วงเช้าก่อนวันเกิดเหตุ

ทางตำรวจยังบอกด้วยว่า ยังเร็วเกินไปที่จะระบุสาเหตุจูงใจของคนทั้งสองที่กระทำการสังหารหมู่ครั้งนี้

ในอีกด้านหนึ่ง ประธานาธิบดี Barack Obama กล่าวให้ความเห็นเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้ว่า สาเหตุจูงใจคนทั้งสองอาจจะเป็นการก่อการร้าย หรือความขัดแย้งในที่ทำงานก็ได้ และว่าแม้จะยังไม่รู้ถึงสาเหตุจูงใจ แต่สิ่งที่รู้ก็คือ มีขั้นตอนที่สามารถทำเพื่อให้ประชาชนมีความปลอดภัยมากขึ้นได้ โดยจะต้องเป็นความร่วมมือของนักการเมืองทั้งสองฝ่าย

เหตุการณ์สังหารหมู่ครั้งนี้นับเป็นครั้งที่ 355 ในสหรัฐในปีนี้!
