ตั้งแต่เริ่มงานประกาศรางวัลออสการ์เมื่อคืนนี้ พิธีกร Chris Rock ดาราตลกเชื้อสายแอฟริกัน เปิดฉากล้อเรื่องสีผิว หลังจากมีเสียงครหาตั้งแต่การประกาศหนังที่ได้เข้าชิงว่า ไม่มีตัวแทนคนผิวดำอยู่ในโผรายชื่อรางวัลใหญ่ๆ

Chris Rock เหน็บการประกาศรางวัลที่ตนกำลังเป็นพิธีกรว่า ออสการ์อาจเรียกได้ว่าเป็นรางวัลความนิยมของคนผิวขาว และหากว่าการเฟ้นตัวพิธีการต้องผ่านวิธีคัดเลือกเดียวกัน ตนเองก็คงหมดสิทธิ์มายืนอยู่ตรงนี้

และเมื่อผู้กับยอดเยี่ยมขึ้นรับรางวัล Alejandro Inarritu จากเรื่อง The Revenant ขึ้นกล่าวคำขอบคุณ เขาบอกว่าในยุคปัจจุบัน คนในวงการมีโอกาสที่ยอดเยี่ยมในการแสดงความสามรถโดยวัดกันที่คุณภาพที่ไม่ได้สนใจสีผิว เพศ หรือ เผ่าพันธุ์
