หลายเมืองทั่วโลกประกาศงดจัดกิจกรรมฉลองปีใหม่ป้องกันเหตุก่อการร้าย

ทางการนิวยอร์คใช้กำลังตำรวจกว่า 6,000 นาย ดูแลรักษาความปลอดภัยอย่างเข้มงวด รวมทั้งเจ้าหน้าที่พิเศษด้านการต่อต้านการก่อการร้าย

หลายเมืองทั่วโลกประกาศงดจัดกิจกรรมจุดพลุ และเฉลิมฉลองในคืนนับถอยหลังเข้าสู่ปีใหม่ เช่นที่กรุงมอสโคว์ ซึ่งทางการรัสเซียประกาศงดจัดกิจกรรมเฉลิมฉลองส่งท้ายปีเก่าต้อนรับปีใหม่ ท่ามกลางการวิตกกังวลของภัยคุกคามจากการก่อการร้าย

แม้ทางการที่กรุงมอสโคว์จะประกาศว่าจะมีการถ่ายทอดการจัดกิจกรรมนี้ทางโทรทัศน์ แต่ก็ไม่มีรายการดังกล่าวแต่อย่างใด

ขณะที่ประเทศในยุโรปหลายประเทศเช่น ฝรั่งเศสและเบลเยียม ก็ประกาศงดการจุดพลุเพื่อเฉลิมฉลองกิจกรรมส่งท้ายปีเก่า นอกจากนี้ยังมีการวางกำลังอย่างเข้มงวดเป็นพิเศษในกิจกรรมต้อนรับปีใหม่ในเมืองใหญ่หลายเมือง

โดยเฉพาะที่นครนิวยอร์ค ที่มีการตรวจผู้คนอย่างเข้มงวดมากกว่าทุกปี โดยเฉพาะในย่านไทม์สแควร์ สถานที่ที่มีผู้คนนับล้านไปรวมตัวกันเพื่อร่วมบรรยากาศการย่างเข้าสู่ปีใหม่เป็นประจำทุกปี

ทางการนิวยอร์คใช้กำลังตำรวจกว่า 6,000 นาย ดูแลรักษาความปลอดภัยอย่างเข้มงวด รวมทั้งเจ้าหน้าที่พิเศษด้านการต่อต้านการก่อการร้าย ที่กระจายหาข่าวตามจุดสำคัญ

นอกจากนี้ยังมีรายงานว่าทางการนิวยอร์คได้ควบคุมตัวผู้ต้องสงสัยวัย 25 ปี ในข้อหาเตรียมก่อเหตุร้ายในคืนวันส่งท้ายปีเก่า ที่เมืองรอเชสเตอร์ทางตอนเหนือของกรุงนิวยอร์ค

ส่วนที่นครมิวนิค ตำรวจกรุงมิวนิคประกาศให้ผู้โดยสารสถานีรถไฟ 2 แห่งอพยพอย่างเร่งด่วน โดยมีรายงานว่าอาจจะมีการวางแผนการก่อการร้าย นอกจากนี้ยังขอร้องให้ประชาชนหลีกเลี่ยงจากที่ชุมชนที่มีผู้คนรวมตัวจำนวนมาก​
