ประธานาธิบดีอาฟริกาใต้ Jacob Zuma ประกาศข่าวการอสัญกรรมของอดีต ปธน.Nelson Mandela ในวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 5 ธ.ค ซึ่งสร้างความเศร้าโศกให้กับประชาชนในอาฟริกาใต้และทั่วโลก
อดีต ปธน.Mandela มีสิริอายุรวม 95 ปี เกียรติประวัติของอดีตผู้นำอาฟริกาใต้ผู้นี้คือการนำพาอาฟริกาใต้เป็นหนึ่งเดียว ขจัดปัญหาความแตกต่างด้านสีผิว และรวมคนหลากหลายเชื้อชาติเผ่าพันธุ์เป็นหนึ่งเดียวภายใต้ชื่อ Rainbow Nation ซึ่งสะท้อนออกมาเป็นธงชาติอาฟริกาใต้ที่มีสีต่างๆถึง 6 สีด้วยกัน ทำให้เขาได้รับเลือกให้เป็นเจ้าของรางวัลโนเบลสาขาสันติภาพเมื่อปี ค.ศ 1993
อดีต ปธน.Mandela เข้าออกรพ. มาตลอดช่วงหลายปีมานี้ ด้วยโรคปอดติดเชื้อซึ่งเป็นอาการป่วยตั้งแต่สมัยที่เขาถูกจำคุกเป็นเวลา 27 ปี ในช่วงที่ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นยุคมืดของอาฟริกาใต้ ต่อมาเขาได้เป็นผู้นำในการเรียกร้องเพื่อสิทธิของคนผิวสีในอาฟริกาใต้ นำไปสู่การยุติการแบ่งแยกทางสีผิว และได้รับเลือกเป็นประธานาธิบดีในปี ค.ศ 1994
