ประธานาธิบดีของสหรัฐฯ และฝรั่งเศสประกาศจะทำทุกอย่างที่จำเป็นเพื่อให้ความสนับสนุนอย่างเต็มที่ต่อรัฐบาลเบลเยี่ยม จากกรณีการโจมตีของผู้ก่อการร้ายที่กรุงบรัสเซลส์เมื่อวันอังคาร ซึ่งกลุ่ม IS ประกาศอ้างความรับผิดชอบ

แต่นักวิเคราะห์ด้านความมั่นคงชี้ว่าการโจมตีที่กรุงบรัสเซลส์แสดงถึงจุดเปราะบางของเบลเยี่ยมเกี่ยวกับการก่อการร้าย เพราะเมื่อปีที่แล้วมีชาวมุสลิมวัยหนุ่มสาวของเบลเยี่ยมเกือบ 500 คน ออกเดินทางไปตะวันออกกลางเพื่อร่วมรบกับกลุ่ม IS ในซีเรียหรืออิรัก

และขณะนี้เบลเยี่ยมนับเป็นประเทศในยุโรปซึ่งมีสัดส่วนนักรบต่างชาติสูงที่สุดเมื่อเทียบกับจำนวนประชากร
