Weekend With VOA Reports on Dogs Sniffing Out Cancer - 2004-09-27

Listen as Chamroen and Nittaya report on the finding that dogs can sniff out cancer. A dog's sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times better than a human's. They can detect the unique abnormal proteins in human urine from persons with bladder cancer. Several tests were conducted, and anecdotal evidence supporting this theory was also in evidence. It has been observed that a canine can sniff out cancer with a 41% accuracy rate, which is three times the success rate of chance alone. Doctors are reluctant, however, to trade in their high tech cancer equipment and rely on dogs' noses.

VOA Thai's Chamroen and Nittaya reviewed "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow." Starring Jude Law, Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, "Sky Captain" is the story of Joe Sullivan, a free-lance pilot who must battle flying robots commanded to take over the world.

Also, this week's music selection is "The End of the World," by Skeeter Davis. Davis just passed away of cancer at the age of 72.

VOA Thai Service enjoyed putting this show together for you, and we hope you'll enjoy listening, too!
