วัน Thanksgiving หรือวันขอบคุณพระเจ้า เป็นวันที่คนอเมริกันรำลึกขอบคุณ พระผู้เป็นเจ้าที่ช่วยให้ผู้อพยพมาตั้งรกรากในอเมริกาชุดแรกรอดชีวิตมาได้

วัน Thanksgiving หรือวันขอบคุณพระเจ้า เป็นวันที่คนอเมริกันรำลึกขอบคุณ พระผู้เป็นเจ้าที่ช่วยให้ผู้อพยพมาตั้งรกรากในอเมริกาชุดแรกรอดชีวิตมาได้ เมื่อเกือบสี่ร้อยปีมาแล้ว โดยจะฉลองกันในวันพฤหัสบดีที่สี่ของเดือนพฤศจิกายนของทุกปี ซึ่งปีนี้ ตรงกับวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 22 ด้วยการอบไก่งวง นอกจากนั้นก็มีมันเทศอบ และซ้อสแครนเบรี่ ส่วนของหวานก็มักจะได้แก่ พายฟักทองหรือพายแอปเปิ้ล

บางบ้านที่ไม่ชอบไก่งวงก็อาจอบขาหมูแฮมแทน ส่วนคนไทยบางบ้านในอเมริกา ก็อาจร่วมฉลองด้วยการทำข้าวมันไก่งวง ข้าวหมกไก่งวง ต้มยำไก่งวง หรือแกงเขียวหวานไก่งวง

ว่ากันว่า ไก่งวง มีสาร tryptophan ซึ่งทำให้ง่วงนอนจัด บางบ้าน พอรับประทานไก่งวงเสร็จแล้ว ก็มักจะพักผ่อนดูฟุตบอลหรืองีบกัน

ส่วนที่ทำการรัฐบาล จะปิดทำการทั้งในวันพฤหัสบดีและวันศุกร์ กว่าจะไปเปิดทำการกันอีกครั้งก็ในวันจันทร์ถัดมา

สมาชิกในครอบครัวที่แยกย้ายกันออกไปอยู่ตามมลรัฐต่างๆ ก็มักพยายามเดินทางกลับไปเยี่ยมบ้านกัน ทำให้ช่วงวันขอบคุณพระเจ้านี้ มีคนเดินทางกันแน่นขนัดที่สุดในรอบปี
