คุณปลอดประสพ สุรัสวดี รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีเดินทางเยือนสหรัฐอเมริกาที่กรุงวอชิงตันเพื่อประสานความร่วมมือกับหน่วยงานด้านวิทยาศาสตร์ของสหรัฐ ทั้งในจัดการป้องกันและจัดการภัยพิบัติ โดยเฉพาะการเตรียมเดินทางไปเมืองนิว ออร์ลีนส์ ที่รัฐหลุยส์ เซียน่า ซึ่งถูกพายุคาทรีน่าถล่มเมื่อ 7 ปีก่อน เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางการฟื้นฟูและการป้องกันภัยพิบัติทางธรรมชาติ ขณะเดียวกันการเดินทางมาเยือนสหรัฐในครั้งนี้ยังถือการกระชับความร่วมมือทางวิชาการด้านวิทยาศาสตร์และกระชับความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง 2 ประเทศ ซึ่งในโอกาสนี้ได้ประสานถึงการเตรียมสานต่อโครงการการสำรวจอากาศในแถบเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ขององค์การนาซา หากผ่านความเห็นชอบของรัฐสภา
