โอกาสการเสียชีวิตในวันคล้ายวันเกิดของคนทั่วไปมีถึง 14 %

นักวิจัยสวิสพบว่าโอกาสการเสียชีวิตในวันคล้ายวันเกิดของคนทั่วไปมีระหว่าง 14 ถึง 44 % จากสาเหตุทางธรรมชาติและความรุนแรงต่างๆ โดยโอกาสที่ว่านี้แตกต่างกันไปในเพศหญิงและชาย

นักวิจัยทางการแพทย์ที่มหาวิทยาลัยซูริคของสวิสเซอร์แลนด์ศึกษาวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับการเสียชีวิตของชาวสวิสกว่าสองล้านสี่แสนคนในช่วง 40 ปี ระหว่างปี 2512 – 2551 และพบความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการเสียชีวิตกับโอกาสวันคล้ายวันเกิด โดยคนทั่วไปทั้งชายและหญิงมีโอกาสเสียชีวิตในวันคล้ายวันเกิด 14 % และตัวเลขนี้จะสูงขึ้นเป็น 18 % สำหรับผู้ที่มีอายุสูงกว่า 60 ปี

สาเหตุของการเสียชีวิตดังกล่าวมีทั้งเหตุรุนแรง เช่นการฆ่าตัวตาย การล้ม การตกจากที่สูง และเหตุผลของการเจ็บป่วยตามธรรมชาติ คือเส้นโลหิตในสมองแตกหรือโรคเกี่ยวกับหัวใจเป็นต้น
