ภาพยนตร์สองเรื่องที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อให้เข้ารับรางวัลตุ๊กตาทองประเภทต่างๆ ถึง 9 ตัวเท่ากัน ซึ่งมากกว่าเรื่องอื่นๆ คือ ‘Birdman’ และ ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’

นักแสดงสามคนใน ‘Birdman’ ยังได้รับการเสนอชื่อสำหรับรางวัลตุ๊กตาทองด้วย โดยมี Michael Keaton ซึ่งเป็นดารานำฝ่ายชาย และตัวประกอบหญิงและชาย คือ Edward Norton และ Emma Stone

ส่วน ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ ผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้ Wes Anderson ได้รับการเสนอชื่อสำหรับรางวัลปีนี้ นอกเหนือไปจากรางวัลประเภทอื่นๆ เช่น การถ่ายทำ การออกแบบเสื้อผ้า และเพลงประกอบภาพยนตร์

ภาพยนตร์ที่ได้รับการเสนอชื่อสำหรับรางวัลภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมประจำปีมี 8 เรื่องด้วยกัน แต่ที่กล่าวขวัญกันมากคือ ‘Boyhood’ ซึ่งใช้เวลาถ่ายทำถึง 12 ปี และ ‘Selma’ ซึ่งเล่าประวัติชีวิตส่วนหนึ่งของ Dr. Martin Luther King ผู้นำคนอเมริกันเชื้อสายแอฟริกาในการต่อสู้เรียกร้องสิทธิ์ที่จะลงคะแนนเสียงเลือกตั้ง
